Hi, all! Got a rather odd question. What brand of food do you guys feed your pets? whether you have a cat or dog, I'm curious. It just seems like people are really loyal to whatever brand they choose. Either that, or their pets are. For example, I have a friend whose cat will only eat Iams food, and only a certain formula of Iams at that. Weird.
When I adopted Shadow, the Rescue League didn't have him on any certain food. They are non-profit, and fed the animals whatever food got donated to them. So, I fed Shadow Eukanuba, since my vet recommended it. When I adopted Emma, the Humane Society had been feeding her Science Diet. Since she was malnourished anyway, I've just kept her on that, since she eats it well. I thought of switching her to Eukanuba, but it doesn't really matter.
So, just curious if you guys have a favored brand of pet food, and why you tend to buy it.
Ok, I think you're in the US, but personally I use a small family company here in the UK called Burns. They make very simple dry diets no addatives no rubbish,l and I tend to feed my dog either Fish and brown rice, or Vinison and brown rice. these diets are also hypoalergenic.
I chose this company because they commit to not doing any animal testing something which is done by iams, who actually own Eukanuba I also think that diets like Iams are full of addatives and rubbish that really isn't needed by the dog.
Well sister Dawn, we get these odd animals. Our last cat had feline aids. This little guy we have has food allergies. He's allergic to chicken and fish. We get his food from a place called shop natural (www.shopnatural.com). I like to say that Advent taught me how to shop on line, as that was the first time I'd ever bought anything on line was when I first ordered his food. He eats caned Nature's Recipe Rabit and Rice. I hope you don't have to go to that expense. Emma probably understand synthesized speech, as cats are very inteligent. She heard the word expense, and I just hope she doesn't decide "Yeah! That's the fod for me!" Seriously, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Good luck!

I feed Emma my guinea pig Purina and Daisy eats Purina dog food! The vet said Purina makes the best guinea pig food it has the vitamins that Emma needs! I buy Purina for Daisy caus if they make the best guinea pig food why not the best dog food too!
Hi, guys. I'm glad people have answered.
Yeah Kevin, I am in the US, and I do know that Iams owns Eukanuba. I hear so many rumors about companies doing or not doing animal testing. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have spread some vicious rumors about Iams, which of course Iams disputes.
Hills, who makes Science Diet, uses the fact that the veterinarian who invented it did so to help Morris Frank, and his Seeing Eye dog Buddy, you know, the original guide dog team that started the Seeing Eye school.
Purina is good stuff, too. I hadn't even thought of it.
Well, concerning Iams, it was a news reporter in this country that got a job in one of their establishments who brought the stories of them animal testing. they will of course deny any aligations as they know that the general public don't like it. However here I look at a list held by the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection ..." They asked all pet food companies to sign a list commiting to no animal testing. Iams refused to sign the last I heard.
I use Fancy Feast for canned food and Meow Mix for dry. No special reason, but I've never had a cat turn up its nose at either.
I use Purina pro-plan. Hester eats the chicken and rice formula. She's not a picky eater or anything, but when I was in class with her at The Seeing Eye, I switched from Iams to Pro-plan because one of the instructors recommended it to me. I have the feeling that Hester'd eat anything, though, if you put it in her bowl (or even if you didn't...) Ah, the belly of a labrador...
Yep, Labs are famous for that. One of my friends feeds her guide dog a brand called Flint River Ranch. Ever heard of that one?
We give our dogs Pedigree, and my cats eat the Purina Indoor Formula cat food. I was thinking of trying the Iams Multicat cat food, but after reading all this about Iams, I'm not so sure I'll do it, and probably just stay with the Purina. The cats like it, but I just wanted to try the Iams, because they say that it's good for multiple cats, as far as weight control goes. If one needs to lose weight, they can, while the other doesn't. They say it helps them build and maintain muscle, so that all cats are getting the benefits. Like I said though, after reading all this about Iams, I'm not so sure I'll try it.
I feed my dog Eukanuba. It's what he was on at the school, and I figured, he does well on it, so I'm not going to mess with it.
We don't really have a specific brand we stick with to give our dogs, except that my small chihuahua eats puppy food. (both kinds of dog food are the crunchy/chewy kind that come in one bag and admittedly I buy which ever has the most and is under 20 dollars.) I have considered putting them on a natural diet after reading about what most major dog foods are made of, but I wouldn't have room to stor the food/ingredients as I live with my parents. Not sure if their is a place around where I live that sells already made natural dog food either, but I'll find out on that one.
I buy my cat the IAMS brand, cat food.
Ya know, I don't know why people always have to say stuff about the premium dog foods. If they were that bad for a dog, the guide dogs school wouldn't use them for their dogs that cost lots of money. Plus, if we knew what was in the food that we eat we would probably want to go natural ourselves. But, natural just doesn't taste good so we continue eating our lunchmeats and all kinds of stuff with things in it that we don't want to know about. So Iames, Eukanuba, Pro Plan is all good premium dog food.
Makes sense, Holly. Smile.
I didn't know they had so many brands! I'll just stick with what I have! Thank you very much lol
Hi alicia!
My picky spoiled little fellow is so weird. I have tried Eukanuba, He will not tuch it. I have tried Pedigree, He will not touch that. I have tried Science Diet, He will not even touch that. He is very particular.. LOL.. He wants Kibbles N Bits, but not just any Kibbles N Bits.. OH NO.. He wants Kibbles N Bits Homestyle, But not the Homestyle with the green bean looking things.. Not my precious.. LOL He wants the Homestyle with the little white turkey or chicken flavor chunks in them. The only bag that comes in is the big ole 25 lb bags. Small bags have the green bean looking ones.

When we had our Retriever nearly 7 years ago now, she kept chopping and changing between Pal, Chappy and Chum, because we thought Pal and Chum were the main cause of her bowel problems, so I think she ate Chappy most of her life, but she much preferred any food left unattended for example, my jam sandwich she once ate for Breakfast when I was little and half a raspberry Pavlova on my Grandparents, dining room table. I think Purdie my Grandparents dog has Winalot, with a generous handful of bickies thrown in of course.
